MANCHESTER UNITED travel to Sunderland THIS AFTERNOON in the Premier League.

Michael Carrick’s side secured Champions League football for next season in last week’s win over Liverpool, but are still looking to cement a third place finish in the league this season, while Bruno Fernandes is one assist away from equalling Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry‘s record of 20.

The Black Cats sit 11th in the table in their first season back in the top flight, and could still mount a late push to challenge Brighton for European football with a win today.

Ballard missing for Black Cats

Sunderland had their appeal for Dan Ballard’s red card rejected this week, meaning his suspension will be upheld and he will miss all three of Sunderland’s remaining games this season. Leia também: fulham x bournemouth

He was sent off for violent conduct last week against Wolves, after a VAR review confirmed he had pulled the hair of striker Tolu Arokodare.

Ballard will be a huge loss for his side, having played 29 matches this season for the club.

Bruno closes in on assist record

Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes is just one assist away from equalling Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s record of 20.

After a close-shave against Liverpool last weekend, Bruno has three games left to put his name alongside or above the two Premier League legends currently above him.

“Nothing changed” for Carrick

Michael Carrick insisted that “nothing has really changed” on his future in his press conference yesterday.

The Red Devils interim boss is the frontrunner for the permanent gig at Old Trafford, but a decision has not yet been made.

He has won more points in his 14 games in charge than Ruben Amorim did in his 20.

That’s an unpredictable starting XI from Carrick.

A couple of the calls are enforced, with Casemiro and Sesko absent. Martinez’s return is not a surprise but it is all change at right back and Mount will likely play in a deep-lying role to offset the absence of a defensive midfielder.

Mount has not started a game since January and Zirkzee’s last start was in December. He scored in the first half against Woives but was still so bad that Amorim subbed him at half-time.
